A beloved classic in Danish design, beautifully decorated for both big days and small moments – and all those in-between that become your personal memories. Kay Bojesen was a master of adding small details to his wooden designs. He found magic in nature’s own material, and with his exceptional talent for shaping wood, one wonderful figure after another emerged in his imagination and took shape between his hands. With this exclusive table flag, you can celebrate birthdays, anniversaries and other special occasions with plenty of warmth and in a responsible and original style that is sure to catch and hold the admiring gaze of any design lover. The flag itself is made of cotton in a strong canvas quality, the pole is crafted from FSC®-certified untreated beech, while the base of the table flag is made from FSC®-certified beechwood and painted with great care and the utmost precision down to the smallest details, giving the entire flag that authentic and thorough expression full of the spirit and humour that have always been the starting point for Kay Bojesen’s unique craftsmanship and storytelling. The Kay Bojesen table flag measures 30 cm in height and, of course, features the Danish flag waving at the top in its characteristic red and white colours, while the base of the flag is formed by the iconic harlequin-patterned drum in red and white with a gold band around the centre, topped with three gifts – all festive elements from Kay Bojesen’s universe, now refined in the loveliest birthday style. A true classic that unites originality and tradition – and in the finest way brings Danish design in as a natural part of the table setting when something special is to be celebrated. Whether it’s a christening, graduation, birthday or just a good reason to gather, Kay Bojesen’s table flag is a meaningful way to say: Today is something special. And the best part is that you can bring it out again and again – year after year – and make it part of your own personal traditions. Impossible to do without for both young and old birthday guests and all true Kay Bojesen fans. Kay Bojesen crafted his first wooden figurine in 1922, and ten years later, he opened a shop and workshop on Bredgade in Copenhagen. Ever since, Kay Bojesen has been synonymous with original Danish design and is known for his playful universe of iconic wooden figurines, created with incredible attention to detail, infused with humour and the joy of unique quality craftsmanship. That is why we say Kay Bojesen has been original since 1922.

Kay Bojesen

Wooden figures

The series of wooden figures is based on Kay Bojesen’s basic idea that toys should be simple, solid and inspire play. Kay Bojesen also worked based on the philosophy that wood only comes to life when it gets a story – a philosophy that was consistent with all his figures. That foundation and Kay Bojesen’s unique talent has turned his magical world of Wooden FIgures into beloved classics and design icons that will last for decades to come.

Kay Bojesen is one of the big Danish designers. He was able to turn wood into original stories like no other. He had a knack for bringing the wood to life. Or as he put it: “Making the line smile”. And the lines certainly smile in each of the Wooden Animals – which have all become iconic.
